Arturo,
Marparker over at wow has a theory that shooting guards overproduce championships. I seem to recall you looking at salary numbers in the past. I’m wondering if it’s actually the negative aspects of SG’s that are producing his results. Specifically, I’m wondering if SG is the position that is typically the most overpayed and hence the place where a team is most likely to cripple itself from a competitive standpoint. I figure that the anomaly of Jordan, together with Yay Points! and the relatively low productivity of the position might make this so. This would mean that the teams that have overpayed the least for SG’s simply have more money for other productive players and are thus in the playoff’s more often than those at the opposite end of the spectrum.

ILS,
That’s an interesting question. So in essence you’re suggesting I take a look at above average SG who din’t get massively overpaid and see if there’s a correlation to championships?

That sounds like a good approach. A couple of related issues would be:
Look at the avg winsProduced per dollar by position (if you haven’t already) to establish where teams are typically wasting the most money.
and
Look to see what the correlation is between teams’ overpayment at a given position and their efficiency differential or championships, etc…

ILS,
Good Ideas. I’ll work it in to the dataset I’m currently working. I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough material for this blog but I think I was very much mistaken.
