So, I’ve been working on the model, a team review and my next series all day and I haven’t had the time to pull a full post together. I did throw together a nice table on preseason numbers for rookies and I thought people might get a kick out of it:
If I look at hit rate (WP48 <.100) for rookies playing 60 minutes or more in the preseason the undrafted outperform the draftees 33% of 18 vs 28% of 32. They’re also 7 of the top 14. Yes, I know, preseason.
Good night & God bless.

There’s a joke about Demarcus Cousins and Marcus Cousin in here somewhere.

If you search for Marcus Cousin on Draftexpress, it takes you to DeMarcus Cousins.

The Golden State Warriors need to give Jeremy Lin more playing time. In his limited minutes, he’s been more efficient and productive than Monta Ellis and the other guards ahead of him in the rotation.

Hey Arturo,
As a fellow Celtics fan I keep wondering why you always mention that you liked the Celtics draft strategy. Has avery bradley given any indication that he will be anything more than a complete waste of minutes off the bench? I realize it’s just the preseason, but I don’t think any of your WP rookie predictions have given much hope for his future either. Is their something I’m missing here?
Luke Harangody does look like he could be a nice pickup in the second round though.

Danny treats the draft like a low cost lottery and he takes risks. Go and count how many bonafide NBA players he’s picked/gotten as GM with late picks (Powe,Perkins,West,Rondo to name a few) . It’s pretty ridiculous. I’ll take 1 out of three at that salary level (and the jury is still out on avery and erden).

I think you have made your way into my daily blogs, arturo.
Great stuff. As a Sixers fan, good to see Turner has been pretty good thusfar eventhough he can’t score to save his life right now. Always like to see guys who can be productive when their shot isn’t falling.

Joe,
Thank you and welcome. Hold the line on Turner. Scorers are a dime a dozen, guys like Turner who do all the other things are rarer. He’ll figure out the offense I think.

Now if we’re playing moneyball ….. either Larry Riley has the fix in or is a closet stathead himself. Lin and Adrien both have pretty gaudy numbers – if they can actually hold half those WP48s they’re still massive steals. A total of 6 rooks over .400, 4 undrafted. Take out the two undrafted guys with 6 minutes each and of all rookies, the top 3 are a #1 and two undrafted, both Warriors. Even with their lottery pick on the bench (or because of, given Adrien), it’s pretty safe to say Riley has a decent rookie crop going into the season.

Agreed. Larry Riley if you’re reading this send me a note. Would love to work with you

Patrick Beverly was waived by Miami. There’s a steal for some team.

Yep. This is making my final projection build a little tricky.

Very interesting Arturo. I’m not sure if I believe that DeMarcus Cousins’ numbers will stay at that level, though… It would be highly abberant for a player who was so productive as a college freshman to toally bomb out in the NBA.

MOS,
I paid 53 bucks (about 10% of my Cap) for Cousins in the WP basketball fantasy league. I’m sure he’ll figure it out.

John Wall–basically average. This kind of production is similar to your projection for your Wizards’ prediction, isn’t it?
arturogalletti
10/25/2010
Yeah. The projection had him pegged. This is a worse version of Iverson’s rookie year with a slightly better player on a worse team in a much, much tougher league.
